Description
KLHL17 protein is expressed in neurons of most regions of the brain. It contains an N-terminal BTB domain, which mediates dimerization of the protein, and a C-terminal Kelch domain, which mediates binding to F-actin. KLHL17 interacts with the kainate-type glutamate receptor subunit GRIK2, a key member of the postsynaptic density network centered on DLG4. KLHL17 also binds actin in the postsynaptic density, and may be involved in structural support of the postsynaptic membrane in a manner similar to the ISS-associated MAGI2. KLHL17 is associated with some diseases, including Juvenile Absence Epilepsy and Chromosome 1P36 Deletion Syndrome. KLHL17 is related to actin filament binding and POZ domain binding.
